Bio:

Russell Parker is a man with a mission – to bring great music to a good bunch of people and hopefully have a bit of craic doing it. Great music you will here Russell play: anything from house to techno to broken beats. “Great” music you will not here him play: anything that needs more than two words to describe it: filthy organic bass glitsch grime dub step!!

It all started when he was still sucking his thumb, making drum sticks out of his mammy’s wooden spoons and beating the hell out of old biscuit tins or anything else that would make a good beat. Moving swiftly forward to the mid 90’s: Russell started buying records and labels such as Hardhands, Warp, Music Man, Junior Boys Own, Limbo and Geurilla and listening to the likes of Leftfield, Kraftwerk, Fluke, U2, Orbital, Pink Floyd, Police, Giorgio Moroder, Underworld, James Brown, Andrew Weatherall, and many more.

Way back when mix-tapes were still cutting-edge Russell’s DJ apprenticeship saw him putting in the ground work at many a house party, waiting for the dj’s records to run out so that he could spin a few tunes as the sun came up. Shortly afterwards in 1999 it all paid off when he was offered a regular slot with the crew on Dublin’s Nova 94.6, where he played until May of the ’05. According to the NRA Russell had a listenership equaled only by the Daddy himself – Gerry Ryan. Clubs where he has manned the wheels of steel include Club UK, Revolver and Q Bar (Melbourne), Bondi Hotel (Sydney) and Mono, Metropolitan, Switch/The Hub, TBMC, Kennedy’s Wax and Dice Bar.

Russell gets bored Djing on his own so a mix cd is a rare and precious thing. Put him in front of a crowd of up for it gals and guys, on the other hand, and he’s a very happy man – it’s all about the dance floor people. When it comes to music pretty much anything goes but these days the dudes doing it for Russell include Confuzed Disco, Soulwax, Tiefschwarz ,Future Classic, Mad Skippers, Switch, Dance Pig, Vitalic, Adam Freeland, Chemical Bros and various releases on Soma or Get Physical.

Russell is currently a resident with the Housejunkies - you can catch him spinning the great and the downright sublime of all things dance at the Housejunkies residency downstairs in Traffic every Saturday. Or tune into powerfm.org on Saturdays from 5.30 – 7pm where sometimes Anthony lets him play if he asks nicely and promises to make more mix cds!!
